Chapter 26
Sanitizing and final checks
Initial flush
Remove manufacturing debris, commission cartridges as directed and keep sanitizing chemicals away from media/UV components that can be damaged. Use bypass valves where manuals require.
Sanitize the system
Use the tank/RV/component manufacturer's exact concentration, contact time and sequence for the bleach strength you actually have. Fill every line until sanitizer reaches each outlet, respect heater/filter instructions, hold, drain to an approved location, refill and flush.
Verify operation
Check taste/odor only after flushing, verify UV alarm/intensity status and flow limit, record starting pressure/flow and confirm no untreated bypass reaches the drinking tap.
Document
Record source, date, sanitizer product/concentration, contact time, filter lot/date, leaks corrected, measured usable tank volume and final test results.
Build rule
If you cannot reach it, isolate it, drain it and explain its pressure/temperature or water-quality job, it is not ready to hide behind a wall.
CHAPTER CHECK
• I can explain the purpose and failure mode of each item in this chapter. • I know which manufacturer limit or water-quality claim controls my choice. • I added the valve, access, drain, measurement or maintenance task to my drawing/checklist.
