Chapter 31
Budget tiers
Portable or 10-20 gal tank, simple 12 V pump, potable hose/tubing, sink, basic grey jug/tank and point-of-use drinking treatment. Excludes labor and varies by country.
Mid-range: roughly $1,500-$4,000
25-40 gal mounted fresh tank, quieter pump/accumulator, manifold, hot water, indoor shower, larger grey tank, solid filtration and monitoring.
Premium: roughly $4,000-$10,000+
Cold-weather tanks/heat, premium heater, high-capacity international treatment, sensors, redundant fill methods and custom stainless/rotomolded tanks.
Spend vs save
Spend on tank mounting, potable-rated pressure components, pump/strainer, waterproofing, heater/combustion safety and treatment with verified claims. Save through simple layout, fewer fixtures and manual valves - never mystery fittings or inaccessible joints.
Build rule
If you cannot reach it, isolate it, drain it and explain its pressure/temperature or water-quality job, it is not ready to hide behind a wall.
CHAPTER CHECK
• I can explain the purpose and failure mode of each item in this chapter. • I know which manufacturer limit or water-quality claim controls my choice. • I added the valve, access, drain, measurement or maintenance task to my drawing/checklist.
