Build a van-safe cabinet

How we built ours

We built the cabinet from lumber and plywood with pocket-hole joinery, then attached it to the van wall and floor with brackets and screws. The exact material thicknesses and fasteners are not documented here, so this is not a cut list.

• Build a carcass that resists racking.
• Secure it to suitable structure in the van.
• Support heavy appliances.
• Keep heavy stored items low where practical.
• Leave access for future plumbing, wiring, and appliance service.

What the road proved

After driving from the United States through Mexico and Central America to Panama, the main cabinet stayed structurally solid. It picked up normal cosmetic wear, but the structure worked.
