Choosing components
Compatibility first
Build a requirements sheet before brand shopping: system voltage, continuous/surge current, battery charge limits, communications, temperature, certifications, warranty and service region.
Battery and power electronics
Prefer published test data, credible BMS limits, low-temp protection and service support. For inverter/MPPT/DC-DC/charger, verify real voltage/current envelopes and manufacturer schematics.
Distribution hardware
Busbars, switches, fuse holders and shunts need ratings above real system conditions, covered live parts, appropriate studs and credible fault capability. Avoid mystery metal and vague specifications.
Wire and connectors
Buy enough correct flexible copper cable, matching lugs/terminals, adhesive heat shrink, glands, grommets and labels. Tooling is part of the component budget.
Affiliate rule
Recommend only items you would install, explain who they suit and disclose affiliate relationships. Link to a model only after teaching the reader which specifications matter.
Rule of thumb
If you cannot state the expected current, full conductor length, protection rating and manufacturer limit for a circuit, the circuit is not ready to build.
