Chapter 24

Troubleshooting

Runs but van stays hot

Check exterior shading, open roof vent/doors, condenser recirculation, dirty coils/filter, fan path, front/rear split, humidity and whether heat load exceeds capacity.

Cold rear, hot front

Run all circulation fans, clear return path, redirect supply, block cab solar gain and inspect the forehead/cabinsulation. Do not simply lower the rear thermostat.

High current/shutdown

Measure voltage at A/C and source, inspect hot terminals, condenser airflow/temperature, coil cleanliness,low-voltage code and battery/BMS limit. Stop on burning smell or abnormal heat.

Water/frost

Clear condensate safely, verify slope and humidity. Frost can mean restricted airflow, dirty filter/coil,sensor/control fault or refrigerant issue; switch off and diagnose rather than chipping ice.

System rule

Do not judge a cooling upgrade at the vent. Judge it by the hottest occupied zone, humidity, energy usedand whether the system can recover that energy safely.

CHAPTER CHECK

• I can explain which heat path this step addresses.• I measured its effect at front, middle and rear - not only by touch.• I added its power, failure mode, maintenance and safety action to the system plan.
