Chapter 21
Monitoring and alarms
Measure zones
Use at least front and rear sensors plus humidity. Place a sensor near dog resting height but out of direct supplyair/sun. Compare readings with a trusted reference.
Power data
Track A/C watts/amps, battery SOC, low-voltage events, solar and alternator input. Historical data revealscompressor duty cycle and whether daily generation catches up.
Independent alert path
A monitor powered by the same failed circuit is not independent. Consider separate battery/connectivity andalert escalation, but never use monitoring to justify unsafe unattended operation.
Test failures
Deliberately test loss of shore, low battery, cellular outage, frozen app, sensor battery, tripped fuse and highcondenser temperature while the van is occupied and supervised.
System rule
Do not judge a cooling upgrade at the vent. Judge it by the hottest occupied zone, humidity, energy usedand whether the system can recover that energy safely.
CHAPTER CHECK
• I can explain which heat path this step addresses.• I measured its effect at front, middle and rear - not only by touch.• I added its power, failure mode, maintenance and safety action to the system plan.
