Grey water system

Size from reality

Grey capacity should match the wastewater you actually generate and legal dumping opportunities. A tiny tank can limit a large fresh tank. Some water is consumed, but most shower/sink water becomes grey.

Tank and drain

An internal tank resists freezing; an underslung tank saves space but needs protection and heating/drain strategy. Provide vent, sloped inlets, cleanout and a valve you can inspect. Electric valves need a manual recovery plan.

Odor control

Keep food out, maintain traps, vent correctly, flush the tank and avoid long warm storage. Odor often enters through a dry trap, bad vent or leak rather than through solid pipe.

Dumping

Grey-water legality varies by park, city, state and country; kitchen wastewater may be treated as sewage. Use an approved drain/sewer or designated facility. Never dump near water, camps, trails or where soap/food harms soil and wildlife.

Build rule

If you cannot reach it, isolate it, drain it and explain its pressure/temperature or water-quality job, it is not ready to hide behind a wall.
