Core system

Toilet -> black tank -> large dump valve/outlet, with a dedicated vent and service access. The tank needs secure mounting, drainage geometry and freeze protection.

Operation

Use enough water to move solids, keep the valve closed until dumping, dump only at approved facilities and flush per product instructions. Leaving a valve open can create a solids pile.

Odor and treatment

A clear vent path and good seals matter more than perfume. Use treatments compatible with tanks, seals and destination treatment systems. Never mix cleaning chemicals.

Why vans avoid it

The tank, 3 in plumbing, dump hose and service space are significant in a small van. Cassette or separating toilets simplify architecture, but no toilet makes disposal responsibility disappear.

Build rule

If you cannot reach it, isolate it, drain it and explain its pressure/temperature or water-quality job, it is not ready to hide behind a wall.
