What we built

Our bed uses three IKEA Skorva adjustable bed beams with their corresponding brackets, structural supports integrated into the van, and the plywood platform above. The bare adjustable beams initially had a little movement. We expected fastening the platform to tie the system together, and it did: the completed bed has no annoying movement, noticeable looseness, or squeaking.

Design your own complete system

Three beams worked in our configuration; that is not a universal beam count. Your span, mattress, occupants, mounting structure, hardware instructions, and full load path all matter. Test progressively while building, inspect every connection, and verify the completed structure before sleeping on it.

• Use the manufacturer's intended ratings and instructions.
• Transfer loads into meaningful support—not decorative panels.
• Check movement after the platform ties the structure together.
• Reinspect connections after the van has been driven.
