Testing and final checks
Dead tests
With sources disconnected and fuses removed: compare installation to schematic; check cable support, lug orientation and torque; verify continuity only where expected; confirm no positive-to-negative short.
Polarity
Use a meter at every source and device before connection. Mark solar polarity at the roof and controller. Never trust wire color or a pre-made adapter.
First power
Connect battery per manufacturer sequence, install the smallest/lowest-risk control protection first, verify bus voltage, then add circuits one at a time. Stop on sparks, smell, heat or unexpected current.
Functional tests
Test each charging source independently, inverter no-load and loaded behavior, every branch, GFCI/RCD operation and transfer switching. Confirm programmed battery chemistry and current limits.
Heat and follow-up
Sustain major loads and charging while monitoring connections and equipment temperature. Retorque only if the manufacturer instructs it, after the stated interval and fully de-energized.
Rule of thumb
If you cannot state the expected current, full conductor length, protection rating and manufacturer limit for a circuit, the circuit is not ready to build.
