Safety

Low voltage does not mean low risk. A lithium bank can deliver enough current to vaporize metal, start a fire or explode an underrated protective device. AC can electrocute.

Before work

Disconnect every source: battery, solar, shore, generator and vehicle charging. Verify de-energized with a meter. Cover panels or isolate them as instructed; they produce voltage in light.

Personal practice

Remove rings/watches, use insulated tools, protect eyes, cover exposed terminals, keep a suitable extinguisher accessible and never work tired in a cramped conductive space.

Mechanical safety

Secure batteries/equipment for vehicle motion and crash loads. Protect cable against sharp metal, water, exhaust heat and moving parts. Keep combustible storage away from hot equipment.

Call a professional

Use a qualified mobile/RV electrician for AC distribution, grounding/bonding, unfamiliar high-current work, alternator integration, code compliance and final inspection when your competence or test equipment is insufficient.

Rule of thumb

If you cannot state the expected current, full conductor length, protection rating and manufacturer limit for a circuit, the circuit is not ready to build.
