Shore power
The path
Shore inlet -> main disconnect/breaker -> transfer or inverter-charger -> AC panel -> branch breakers -> receptacles/appliances. A charger/converter supplies DC and charges the bank. An inverter-charger combines charging, inversion and often transfer switching.
120 V and 230 V
Use equipment matched to the inlet voltage, frequency and service. Never solve a voltage mismatch with a plug adapter alone. Set the charger/input-current limit to the source so a weak pedestal or generator is not overloaded.
Shock protection
Protect the inlet and cable, bond the equipment grounding conductor to the vehicle's approved grounding point, and use GFCI/RCD protection where required. Neutral-ground bonding changes with source mode in many inverter-chargers; follow the device manual exactly.
Generators and transfer
A generator is another AC source with its own grounding/bonding rules. Use a listed transfer method so two sources cannot backfeed each other. Do not make improvised male-to-male cords.
When useful
Shore power is valuable for battery recovery, extended A/C, winter heating loads, maintenance charging and cloudy stationary stays. It can let you choose less battery, but only if hookups are truly part of your travel style.
Rule of thumb
If you cannot state the expected current, full conductor length, protection rating and manufacturer limit for a circuit, the circuit is not ready to build.
