Chapter 09
Layer 3: the 12 V A/C
Why 12 V
Direct DC avoids running a separate inverter for the A/C and can reduce conversion losses. It does not makecooling free: about 65 A at roughly 12-13 V is approximately 0.8 kW before cycling.
Rear-door tradeoff
The rear placement was compact and made sleeping comfortable, but concentrated supply air near the bedwhile the cab remained far from the source. Mounting location is an airflow decision, not only a cabinetrydecision.
Installation essentials
The evaporator must recirculate indoor air; the condenser must reject heat outdoors without short-circuiting hotdischarge back into intake. Seal penetrations, drain condensate outside, protect refrigerant lines and maintainservice airflow.

System rule
Do not judge a cooling upgrade at the vent. Judge it by the hottest occupied zone, humidity, energy usedand whether the system can recover that energy safely.
CHAPTER CHECK
• I can explain which heat path this step addresses.• I measured its effect at front, middle and rear - not only by touch.• I added its power, failure mode, maintenance and safety action to the system plan.
